* Do you know what the CNAME record is?

Suggested article from our blog: What is a CNAME record?

CNAME (canonical name) is a standard DNS type, similar to the ALIAS DNS record, that maps one domain name (the alias) to another (the canonical).

Example for DNS CNAME record

The CNAME record can’t coexist with other records for the same hostname. The request for a hostname with a CNAME will show the true hostname, and there will be the rest of the DNS records.

CNAME record servers for the following purposes:

  • Organize your subdomains and point them to the root domain
  • Redirect traffic from several websites you own to one primary website

Attention, if you already have other DNS records for a hostname, you can’t create a CNAME record.
